Biographical / Historical
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was the most popular of the New Deal programs created by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to provide relief and a speedy recovery from the Great Depression. The CCC Program existed from 1933 to 1942, putting millions of young men to work. The enrollees built pipelines, dams, fences, planted trees, performed trail development and maintenance in National parks, eradicated poisonous weeds, and fought crickets and grasshoppers. Fire prevention and firefighting were major activities. Camp Swinford Springs (DG-7) was established in May 1936 in Washoe County, Nevada.
