Biographical / Historical
The National Water Resources Association (NWRA) is the most active and longest-running national association related to the development and policy of water resources. The NWRA began as the National Reclamation Association (NRA) in 1932. The NRA’s mission was to ensure that reclamation projects in the West were authorized and constructed. Overtime, members of the NRA became more concerned with issues relating to water policy. The Association slowly shifted its focus to more national concerns as a result, eventually changing its name to the NWRA to reflect this in 1969. The NWRA was actively involved in the implementation of the Reclamation Reform Act of 1982, which both preserved the goals of the original Reclamation Act of 1902 and renewed federal interest in reclamation.
