Biographical / Historical
The Herald and News provides local news to the counties of Klamath, Siskiyou, Lake, and Modoc. In 1906, the Evening Herald was founded. The Klamath News was launched in 1923. Both papers eventually fell under the same ownership. Because of wartime newsprint rationing, the papers were merged in 1942, forming the Herald and News. The Herald and News is known for its coverage of local events, both current and historical. As part of its historical segment, the newspaper will compile articles that they had previously published about events that took place that week during previous years, usually divided by events that took place 10, 25, 50, and 100 years ago. Such historical coverage includes topics such as the ones contained in this collection: early settlers in the region, the Modoc War, and the Oregon, California, and Eastern (OC&E) Railway.
