A brochure about the Sokol Festival in Malin, Oregon, on July 3rd, 4th and 5th, 1928. The brochure explains the Sokol movement, brought by the emigrants from Bohemia (Czechoslovakia), and its founder, Miroslav Tyrs. The item was donated by Bill Johnson in 2005.

Biographical / Historical

The Sokols organization was founded in 1862 in Bohemia, Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic and Slovak Republic). “Sokol” means “falcon” in Slavic languages. The organization’s founder Miroslav Tyrs promoted physical and mental fitness, his motto being: “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body”. In Oregon, the Czech emigrants brought this organization to Malin.
