Scope and Contents

Collection consists of two typed papers, donated by Patricia (Pat) Scruggs Trolinger, Modoc Tribal Historian,on September 25, 2002. The first document is a chapter, titled "A Glimpse of the Modoc Tragedy", written and copyrighted on March 13, 2002, by Francis S. Landrum. It is accompanied by a short letter addressed by Landrum to Ms. Trolinger. The second document is a copy of a paper written by Ms. Trolinger in 1981 in Miami, Oklahoma. The title of the paper: "Annotated Summary of the Modoc Prisoners of War List at the Quapaw Agency in Indian Territory"

Biographical / Historical

Patricia Jane Scruggs Trolinger, 1930-2010, was a native of Madisonville, Tennessee. She was a Tribal historian for the Modoc Tribe of Oklahoma 1978-2003 and wrote the “History of the Modoc Tribe of Oklahoma” in 2003. She also developed and maintained the Modoc library. Ms. Trolinger served on the Bord of Directors of the Ottawa County, Oklahoma Historical Society. Served her church, First Presbyterian as a Deacon. She was active in several heritage organizations and was an Honorary President National of the National Society of Daughters of 1812. She was also Honorary Governor General of the Hereditary Order of Descendants of the Loyalists and Patriots of the American Revolution.

With her air force pilot husband Donald Trolinger, she lived in Spain and Germany.
