Biographical / Historical
Fort Klamath was a military outpost located between Crater Lake and Upper Klamath Lake. It was on the boundary of the Klamath Indian Reservation between 1863 and 1890. Fort Klamath played an important role during conflicts with the Klamath, Modoc, and Northern Paiute tribes. The Klamath County owns part of the site and has rebuilt the Guard House on its original location. There is a museum in the Guard House which contains artifacts from the old Fort. The graves of Captain Jack and the other leaders of the 1872-1873 Modoc War are located on the site. There are plans to rebuild the other historic buildings of the Fort.
