Biographical / Historical

Kenneth A. Burkholder was a district forester employed by the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the Bend District of Region 1 in Oregon. He was born in Ashland, Oregon, in 1915 and spent his childhood in Portland. Kenneth Burkholder served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Europe. In 1938 he received a degree in forest management from Oregon State College. He married Bernice Quintus in 1951. Kenneth Burkholder served 38 years with the Oregon and California Administration and the BLM. Before retiring in 1977 and moving to Lakeview, Oregon, he had received many commendations for his work in forest management and fire protection. He had been a member of the Society of American Foresters and the Association for the Advancement of Science. Kenneth Burkholder passed away in March 2009.
