Biographical / Historical
Nelson Reed was a businessman, civic leader, and philanthropist in the Klamath Basin of Oregon and California. He was appointed chairman of the Oregon Klamath River Commission, the legislative study group that developed the Klamath River Compact with the California Klamath River Commission in 1957. Reed was born on June 21, 1895 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and died on November 11, 1970 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He is also recognized as the chairman of the Examining Board for the opening of Tulelake, California, homesteading land in 1947 and 1948 and the author of the books Tales of the Klamath Country, Tule Smoke, and Stories of Let’s Pretend.
