Biographical / Historical

The Klamath Weekly Star was the pioneer paper for the county, beginning in May of 1884. The name was later changed to the Klamath County Star. Eventually, the Star ran into financial trouble. Its last issue was printed in October 1895.

The Klamath Falls Express first appeared in 1892. It was the second publication in Klamath after the Star. The Express began to face financial difficulties around the same time as the Star. The paper survived under new management for a while. The paper was bought and cancelled by Sam Evans in 1912, along with the Evening Chronicle. Evans started the Klamath Falls Northwestern the same year.

The Klamath Republican launched immediately after its short-lived predecessor, the Independent, in 1896. It ran until 1914. When the Northwestern ceased production in 1915, the Evening Herald was the only remaining paper in Klamath Falls until 1923 when the Klamath News was launched.

The Evening Herald was founded in 1906. It was merged with the Klamath News in 1942, becoming the Herald and News.
