A poster donated by Bill Johnson in 2007. "Notice: Headquarters Western Defense Command and Fourth Army. Presidio of San Francisco, California. May 23, 1942. Civilian Exclusion Order No. 95". An order signed by J.L. DeWitt, Lieutenant General, U.S. Army, Commanding. The Order commands all persons of Japanese ancestry to report to the designated locations within the specified time frame: between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Sunday, May 24, 1942. Failure to comply will result in immediate apprehension and internment.

Biographical / Historical
Civilian Exclusion Orders were issued to the citizens of the Japanese descent by the U.S. Army Lieutenant General John L. DeWitt, the Head of the Western Defense Command, over a period of five months: March – August, 1942. The orders systematically facilitated the removal of all Japanese Americans from California, Washington, Oregon, and parts of Arizona to the internment camps. Exclusion Order notices were posted on buildings, billboards, telephone poles, and other high visibility spots within the exclusion area.
