Biographical / Historical
The years 1945-1946 saw several major historical events, both in and out of the Klamath Basin. Some of these events were important international or nation-wide events, such as the end of the World War II and the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The historical significance of these events wasn’t the only reason they so heavily impacted the Klamath Basin. While the nation collectively followed these events, their impact felt closer to home for residents of Oregon. A Japanese balloon bomb had killed Oregon residents during this time, marking the only WWII casualties on American soil. Other local historical events from this time were relatively more mundane and positive, including the rodeos of Klamath Basin, as well as major developments within Klamath Falls, such as the construction of new buildings. Newspaper articles about these and other events comprise a scrapbook put together by Richard H. Dewey.
