Biographical / Historical

Alvin Alexander Cheyne was born in Klamath Falls in 1921 on the farm where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1940. In 1975 Alvin married Beverly Murdock McFall. Alvin Cheyne had a long history of community service, spending nearly 20 years on the Klamath County Roads Advisory Committee and the Soil Conservation Service Committee. He was a member of Rotary International for most of his life. He was active in 4-H and the leader of the Henley Beef Club for 17 years, as well as a board member of the Klamath Basin Improvement District and a member of the Board of Directors of the Klamath Bucket Brigade. He had one of the oldest Angus cattle herds in the west, which he and his brother Charles had begun in 1939. Alvin Cheyne served as a County Commissioner and as a Vice President of the Klamath County Cattlemen's Association. Beverly Cheyne was a 4-H leader, a SMART volunteer, and a Home Extension member. She served as a member of the Board of Governors for the Shaw Library, due to her interest in sharing and preserving the history of the Klamath Basin. She also co-chaired the writing of the Klamath County History Book and was a member of the Modoc County Historical Society. Alvin Cheyne remained active in farming until his death in 2005. Beverly Cheyne passed away in 2015.
