Captain Oliver Cromwell Applegate was an Oregon-native born in 1845. He helped open the Applegate Trail and edited the Klamath Republican newspaper. The Denny Creek marker commemorates the camping site of pioneer John Fremont during his 2nd journey of exploration (1846). Collection contains paper-framed photograph of Captain Applegate in front of the Denny Creek marker, in color.
Klamath River Commission Records
Nelson Reed was a businessman, civic leader, and philanthropist in the Klamath Basin of Oregon and California. He was appointed chairman of the Oregon Klamath River Commission, the legislative study group that developed the Klamath River Compact with the California Klamath River Commission in 1957. Collection contains a folder with donation records, deeds of gift, and thank you letters from Nelson Reed.
